If you are a gardening enthusiast, you are probably very excited right now. The cold oppression of winter has finally lifted, and spring is upon us. That means you can finally start working on that dream garden that you've been dreaming about. Unfortunately, your garden is not currently in any state to start growing luscious flowers and supple vegetables. Here are a few tips on how to get your garden back up and running after the long winter.
1. 1.Aerate your soil. With winter comes snowfall, and your soil has been suffocating all winter under the weight of it all. Aerate your soil in order to help it breathe and feel alive again. You can easily aerate your soil by renting a core aerator. This machine presses steel tubes into your soil and pulls the soil up and out of the ground. This lets your soil breathe and is necessary to begin planting a garden.
2. 2.Mow the old grass down. If you have warm-season grass on your lawn (Bermuda, centipede, buffalo grass, Zoysia, or St. Augustine), you’ll need to mow your grass down in order to remove thatch from your lawn. Thatch is the build-up of dead leaves and stems from the winter.
3. 3.Apply a weed preventer. In late winter, apply a lawn weed preventer to your yard. This weed preventer will, obviously, help to prevent weeds from growing in your yard. This will help make your lawn more beautiful and pristine.
